I don’t know about you, but with Olympics fever raging around Britain, my thoughts have turned to making my lifestyle a little more healthy. When I was asked to test drive (or rather, test eat) a six day diet plan from a company called Soulmatefood, I decided it would be a great time to reform my bad habits.
Soulmatefood Diet Delivery Service Review
Soulmatefood is a diet delivery service: essentially, you tell them what your goals are, and they deliver food to your door. All you have to do is eat it! I was delighted to find out that Soulmatefood have teamed up with Olympic teams and individual athletes to provide nutrition throughout the games. Soulmatefood count a wide variety of Olympic athletes as their clients, including the Team GB Boxing team! Soulmatefood offer a range of meals catered to whatever goals you want to achieve, whether that’s 5lbs weight loss, or an Olympic Gold Medal. Here’s my in depth review:
Day 1: Pleasantly surprised at the variety of food I’ve received, and also getting it delivered overnight to my doorstep feels like Christmas morning! The first day is a breeze, I’m not hungry once, and I love having menu plans with all my food on it, and well labeled packages. I hadn’t realised how much would need to be microwaved though, and unfortunately I don’t have one, but I work round it.
Day 2: Breakfast is delicious: banana granola with purple grape and blueberry yogurt, and again, I’m not at all hungry for the day. I love that I can still have cheese on my burrito at lunch, and ‘strawberry marshmallow mousse’ for afternoon tea, which is yummy. My stomach is already much flatter, my skin looks healthier, and I seem to be sleeping better.
Day 3: The first day when I’ve had to eat on the go. I switch meals around so I can take a package out with me, and actually, it works perfectly. I usually spend a stupid amount in Marks and Spencer or Waitrose in a desperate rush, but it’s really convenient having the packages with me and stops me ‘straying’. Breakfast was AMAZING: ‘cherry velvet pancakes’ – a kind of chocolatey, creamy, fruity centre in a pancake. I can’t believe I get to eat this stuff and call it a diet!
Day 4: Definitely sleeping much better. I usually struggle to doze off, and wake several times during the night, but this week I sleep through and wake up refreshed. It’s probably due to not having caffeine as well as the better diet. I’m enjoying eating little and often, and can visibly see I look slimmer, and my skin is continuing to clear. Despite being a vegetarian, I never eat tofu or quorn, which the Soulmatefood incorporates a lot of. By day 4, I’m a little fed up of it, but I seem to have much more energy.
Day 5: Delicious Muesli for breakfast – the breakfasts have been the best meal by far for me. More tofu for lunch though, and I swear to god, if I have to eat any more aubergine or spinach, I may scream. Today is a struggle – I want to cook my own food again, and because of the lack of microwave, I’m struggling to heat meals thoroughly. I actively want to burn my mouth on something instead of having it lukewarm!
Day 6: Final day, and I’m sort of looking forward to it being over, and sort of sad as well. It’s a cracking final day: fat free English breakfast, coconut and cherry muffin, pea mint & feta soup (amazing), and stuffed peppers and salad for supper. Everything is delicious, and I can’t believe I can see such a difference in my body in just six days – especially six days when I’ve been allowed to eat pancakes and muffins!
Results
Great. I lost 4lbs in six days, it re-educated me about portion sizes and encouraged me to include more fruit and veg in my diet and reform my habits. My skin has cleared up amazingly, and I haven’t slept this well in ages. I’m in a better mood, my energy levels are sky high, and I seem to be super-motivated. I can honestly say I haven’t felt hungry once, and I’m shocked to have lost so much weight considering it really didn’t feel like a diet. I did get bored of Quorn and tofu though, and I was longing for something really hot (although this was my own fault for not having a microwave.)
Positives: Menus were varied, and I loved being able to still eat cheese and sweet things, even though they were healthy. The fresh food was when Soulmatefood came into their own. It was extremely convenient, and I could imagine perfect if you’ve got a big project on at work and want to eat healthily but can’t find the time. The results spoke for themselves, and I was delighted by them. Great on the go – I could imagine booking the service for, say, London Fashion Week, just because healthy eating can go out of the window at busy times like that. It’s SO EASY. No calorie counting, no weighing or measuring, nothing. It’s all very organised, with your own name on snacks (perfect for the office fridge), and with detailed menu plans. Ultimately, I felt great by the end of the week.
Negatives: As a vegetarian, I got bored of the tofu and quorn, and I think it would probably be better for meat eaters. I usually cook from scratch, so it was strange to suddenly have ready meals, and if you don’t have a microwave, I’d recommend talking to the company first so you can work around this. The price, starting at £25 a day, could be high for some. If something isn’t to your taste, you’re a little bit stuck – although as you have a consultation with the company first, I think you’d be able to describe your likes and dislikes.
In conclusion, I think Soulmatefood is perfect for busy people who usually rely on ready meals and takeaways, and who want to reform their eating habits. As I said, I think it would be ideal if you had a busy working week planned, but still wanted to watch your diet. It’s great for kick-starting weight loss, and making you feel much, much better in yourself, and the wide variety of different eating plans the company offer means that there should be something for everyone, whatever your goals.
