Back in the Summer we attended Scoop International, the fashion industry trade show held at the iconic Saatchi Gallery in London. We were introduced into some fabulous fashion brands, jewellery and accessory designers and saw some exciting collections. One of those was boutique jewellery label tenali, we instantly fell in love with the vibrant colours and unique concept of their Indian textile heritage inspired jewellery range.
tenali – handmade dye-tie jewellery
The boutique jewellery brand tenali were showcasing their Pomegranate collection at Scoop. Taking traditional craft techniques, inspired from Indian textile heritage and creating beautiful, wearable pieces of jewellery. Tenali use a version of the Rajasthani technique of ‘bandhani’ or tie-dye. Taking the organic form of the tied fabric, keeping it together rather than unravelling it and creating a new ‘dye-tie’ process to give amazing patterns on vivid colour schemes.
Based in London and Delhi, tenali was launched by sisters Disha and Eisha Goel in spring 2011. With a background in fashion and jewellery, the sisters have a passion for textiles and traditional craft techniques and this really comes across in their collection.
Fantastic Jewellery
All the tenali pieces are handcrafted at their studio in Delhi, taking up to two days to finish one piece. The collection brings about a unique range of necklaces, bangles and earrings in vibrant colours and fantastic prints that are perfect for giving some sunshine to your winter wardrobe and really accessorising up your summer wardrobe too! The collection has styles that can be worn as casual daywear or resort-wear accessories, or be turned into eclectic, quirky evening wear jewellery.
We love the Ringa Ringa Necklace, which is a single line of bobbles in luxurious velvet finished with a satin tie-up. Each piece comes with different coloured inter-linked coils that can be threaded into the necklace to give a new look.
Perfect for boosting the winter blues is the Leher ‘Dori’ Necklace. A cotton rope intertwined around a cluster of beads, available in energetic tangerine. Each bead is individually wrapped in hand dyed silk georgette and held together with the rope.
“One of the unique features of our product is the way we do textile jewellery, which is very different to what is available in the market”
For four weeks only, from November 25th to December 23rd 2011, tenali will be showcasing their range at the Designers/Makers Handmade Christmas Pop up. The shop will be open Monday to Saturday and is located at 18 Exmouth Market, in the bustling design-aware neighbourhood of Clerkenwell, London. The collection is also available via Tate Britain, culturelabel.com and lovestretch.com.
