Incredibly the new year is almost upon is, which means plenty of new interior design trends will be sweeping homes across the country over the next few months.
Interior Design Ideas for the New Year
In order to ensure you know what to expect, and for the men, what to expect to have to put up or help decorate, here are a few of the trends expected to be hot for 2013;
Mirrors, Mirrors on the Wall
As if one mirror wasn’t enough, grouped mirrors are set to be a big trend come 2013. Used more as a design statement than for their practical use, grouped mirrors look great installed in kitchens, dining rooms and bedrooms. With many different designs available, from the clean-cut contemporary pieces to more traditionally designed options, there are sure to be grouped mirrors available to fit in with the current style and decor of your home!
It’s All About the Retro-Plants
You may well be wondering what on earth this means, so don’t worry, you don’t have to go out and buy a few dead plants to ensure your home is on trend. Retro botanicals or plant inspired designs from the 1950’s and 60’s remain bang on trend and are only going to get more popular as we head into 2013!
Perfect for creating a feature wall in your lounge, there are many different types of wallpaper available with a retro inspired plant theme to really take your home back a few generations. Alternatively if you didn’t fancy redecorating, how about updating your curtains or cushions with a similar design to refresh the look of a room with considerably less effort!
Bring the Outdoors in!
Whilst wood has always been commonly used in the home, the use of varnish to finish of the look is being removed to leave a simple, raw wood finish for furnishings in 2013. With no varnish, paint or embellishment visible on the wood, the use of natural, pale looking oak, beech and birch are going to be a big hit in the new year.
Another natural material, marble, is making a big comeback and is no longer just recognised as the perfect material for a fireplace hearth. Side tables and table centre pieces look great in marble, yet be warned, marble is an expensive material so keep your budget in mind throughout.
Add that Touch of Brass
Accessories add the perfect finishing touches to a home, and brass is proving to be a popular material for those looking for an accessory that is certain to stand out. From brass holders for scented candles through to vases, lights and quirky ornaments, the metallic finish is one you shouldn’t miss out on if you want your home to be on trend in 2013.
There are sure to plenty more trends arising in the coming months as we head towards a brand new year, so those above are just the tip of the iceberg. Leave a comment below if you have heard of any other trends planned to be a big interior design hit in 2013.
