This week the exciting lingerie company, Boudoir London, launched their new website and with their range already in 10 Wallis stores and Wallis online, this brand is already making waves in the lingerie land.
Boudoir London
The team at Boudoir London, headed up by creator Dalbir Bains, is launching Boudoir London’s Nightwear collection this month, the first of the three product categories that Boudoir London specialises in. Dalbir’s inspiration for the ranges that she designs comes from her background as a fashion buyer. She has spent over 15 years buying Nightwear, Lingerie and Swimwear for the high street and she loves every one of these three categories. Boudoir London was created in 2006 and has gone from strength to strength.
We took the time to interview Dalbir about Boudoir London and to learn the inspiration and background to this great lingerie company.
Q. What encouraged you to get into this industry and what was your route into it?
A. When I left university I was going to be a lawyer, but I didn’t feel it would be creative enough. I love the creative process and seeing ideas become reality. I joined a graduate fashion buying scheme as a Trainee Buyer and I worked my way up from there to become a Buying Director. It then felt that creating my own brand was the next logical step and Boudoir London was born.
Q. Where do you get your ideas from for your collections and where do you source materials from?
A. The collection is inspired by my travels from all over the world. I take inspiration from people, places, clothes, architecture and whatever I am lucky enough to see. The fabrics and trims are all international and we meet with fabric suppliers all over the world before we decide on what fabrics to use.
Q. How do you decide what will be featured in your collection?
A. The collection starts off with no limitations. Every idea that could be a possibility is on a board and then as we draw nearer the range finalisation dates. I start to create stories from the ideas and pull styles into groups. It is very important to create stories in a range, so the collection flows and is cohesive. With my retail background I’m aware of the importance of a co-ordinated collection and how it looks in store. The hardest part is when we are finalising the range (which is always too big) and we have to edit out pieces. The key is to make sure that every piece is a hero piece so we have to love it before it gets selected.
The Collection
The Nightwear collection is the first to launch at Boudoir London and there are four great themes to the range featuring camisoles, chemises, pyjamas and robes.
Polka Dot
Polka Dot’s are on trend this Autumn/Winter. An update to the nautical theme and give depth and texture. The luxurious polka dot satin collection at Boudoir London features a number of cute, ultra feminine pieces that were all created to coordinate together perfectly.
Modal Lace
With the finest lace and the softest modal jersey, this collection speaks for itself. From the beautiful full length gown the gorgeous lace trimmed chemise, the range features everything you need for that beautiful, classy look for your nightwear.
Animal
You can’t escape animal prints this season, bring them into your nightwear with the animal print range from Boudoir London. With a print specifically designed for Boudoir London, this collection is bold and unique. With all pieces being made from the finest satin and trimmed with the beautiful lace.
Modal Satin
This collection is the ultimate in understated glamour. With two unique colour palettes to choose from, all pieces from the pyjama pant to the chemise, are created in the softest modal jersey, with a trim of the best satin added to give every garment in this range that added touch of luxury.
Back to the interview…
Q. Have you seen the fashion industry or trends change in the last few years?
A. Fashion is always moving fast, but the recession has changed the way people shop. Although you would think that everyone is buying cheap, I think that a lot of people are bored of throwaway fashion and buying less but better quality. In tough retail conditions, the consumer with the most money, the 40- 50 somethings, are being courted by designers as they have the highest level of disposable income to spend on fashion, so I do think there is more grown up fashion out there.
Q. What’s the most rewarding part of your work? What is your greatest accomplishment so far?
A. The most rewarding part of my work is brand recognition – seeing my products on sale in stores and reading articles about my brand in the papers or magazines. As a fashion buyer I was used to seeing products I had worked on in store, but now when I see my personal collection on sale in stores and on websites, I feel quite proud. It’s fantastic when I hear retailers want to buy Boudoir London collections. My greatest accomplishment to date would have to be the launch of the brand in top stores in the UK as well as The United States, Canada and India.
Q. What is next for Boudoir London? What are your goals for 2011/12?
A. After the nightwear launch we will be concentrating on the launch of our Spring Summer Swimwear range for February 2012. After that it will be full steam ahead for our Lingerie collection for our A/W 2012 range. Our key strategy is to increase visibility in USA, Brazil, India and other countries in Europe.
The Boudoir London collections can be viewed here and bought through their online shop or through Wallis stores. What perfect way to feel warm and stylish this Autumn/Winter, than starting from within.

Wow, the nightwear is just awesome! As we know, there are those who consider the clothes others can see to be important but pay little attention to the underwear. Personally speaking, the underwear is as important as the clothes. Your article offers me much more information I expected.
